Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Review
Since the introduction of the sensor cropped DSLR, wildlife and sports photographers have been happy, while the landscape and architecture photographers have been a bunch of not so happy. With 35mm kit, each focal length 20mm was down as an ultra-wide angle lens, but the same length on a crop sensor just a regular wide-area. Here is a look at Sigma Answer to take to f/4-5.6mm the problem with the UK’s first exclusive look at the all new 10-20mm zoom, a true ultra wide zoom for dSLRs.
Build and handling
This lens is designated, and includes Sigma EX series. It is therefore with the three-year warranty and UK is crowned with a lens hood in a zip bag of the kind that now comes sporting a belt loop. The goal is the hardy matt black, that we praised before. Canon and Sigma Sport mounts the usual AF/MF switch while the Nikon does not. Both are right in front of the mount. The rest of the run is approximately into thirds, the first and last thirds split by zoom ring and focusing ring occupied. The zoom ring is at 10 points, 12,14, 17 and 20mm. Zooming the lens extends length of nearly 5 mm, so that a zoom-lock would be pretty redundant!
Focus is a silent HSM motor, which is not reached on the elements move very far, and is therefore almost immediately. The front element does not rotate during use, so easy to use filters.

Sigma have a good job here, done with the 77mm lens Sporting a filter thread, not a huge size for a lens this wide. And the front element does not protrude, so that close-fitting filters.
We tried Cokin Z-Pro system on the lens and found that generally equipped, there was no vignetting, where the proprietor was oriented in the same manner as the cap is fitted. However, it did vignette on 10mm with the owner in a normal position when taking landscape photographs. (Disappears between 11 and 12mm) The holder of vice versa, so that only the single-slot, this problem was overcome. Sigma is only in its multilingual brochure that only a thicker filter should be used and “may” to it vignetting.
Optical power
This lens is sharp! At 20mm, tests showed the resolution is voted, and at one point even carried out easily from the venerable Canon 17-40mm L.
At 15mm it is a little soft around the edges, although still beautiful in the middle, but with time it will be up to the 10mm mark the edges have improved again. In fact, at the wide end, the overall performance was the best in the palette. The lens has been optimized to clear for the shorter focal length, since there is no distortion, while the 20mm end came a little pin-cushioning.

Chromatic aberrations are very good with the employment of three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements control, molded aspherical and two hybrid aspherical lenses. Although not totally eliminated, they did not show significantly.
The lens is called a DC, which means that it only for the DSLR cameras with crop factor of 1.5x or later developed. However, we have it on a Canon 1D, which has a crop factor of 1.3x and found that, without filter, could try to be used without vignetting from 11mm upwards.

Verdict
With the wide field of view that this lens digital SLR owners, panoramic style is required angle, this lens is an answer to their prayers. Performance is excellent and the size and weight is little more than a standard zoom. Aimed at an area where it need not candidates withdraw from the 35mm-Arena and the fulfillment of a certain, Sigma should be on a winner to be here.
