Nikon 85mm f/1.8D AF Lens Review
Nikon AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D, first introduced in 1994, is one of two primes of 85mm to the lineup of advanced lenses Nikon (the rest of whom AF Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D). Lenses, as well as his cousin faster f/1.4, went through 4 (5 if you count the specialized 80mm F / 2 variant) changes, and initially was not a version of the AI (introduced around 1965), whereas variant AI (Introduced in 1973), later replaced by a version of the AIS (introduced around 1988) and, finally, variant AF-D. Priced at ~ $ 400 (as at May 2008), the lens is quite affordable for ordinary users (although it should be noted that compared to Canon its main rival in the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, Nikon lens is a bit outdated and overpriced) .
Optical construction of the lens comprises 6 elements in 6 groups – quite ordinary optical design without any special optical elements are included. The build quality is pretty decent lens, but not exceptional – the barrel is made of plastic and in no way comes even close to the quality of some of wearing high-end lenses from Leica and Carl Zeiss.
Nevertheless, the lens does not consider inconclusive at all, and no vibrations inside or outside. This can partly be explained by the fact that the implementation of the back of the lens focusing optical design, so that the camera lens does not extend during focusing, keeping the overall length of the lens unchanged. And 72 x 59mm (2.3 x 3.8in) and 380g (13.2oz), the lens is very compact and easy-to-telephoto prime.
