Canon 100mm Macro lens in the rival group is a popular lens, especially when the overall length remains constant during focusing. We take a look at how it performs.
Build and handling
As mentioned, is the physical length of the lens during the focus range, going up to a ratio of 1:1 fully stable. These give the lens a massive advantage over many of its competitors. Combine that with the USM focus motor that is both fast and nearly silent and you have a very useful lens. Another common attribute is the focus limiter, the definition of the focus range for normal use to 0.48m to infinity cuts and accelerated the focus no end. The switch is located on a table next to the normal AF/MF switch on the left side of the cylinder mounted.

The wide manual focus ring needs a full half turn around the lens to fully take through the focus area, but even that is not the type of lens is too high. It sports a distance window at the top of the barrel marked in both meters and feet, and it is not an attempt a futile DOF scale.
Overall the build quality is good, but not quite up to some of the top-end lenses from Canon and have it not mean that the feeling that screams quality. No less, it is well built. As with all Canon’s non-L lenses, the hood is an additional charge.
Optical quality
There is very little that with the optical quality of the lens and even criticize, do not overdo this advertising. Chromatic aberrations are well controlled and even at extremes of the lens and no occurrence of more than of a pixel could be found everywhere. Contrast, as with most of the Canon stable, good and decent resolution figures kick in the wide-open setting and stay there right in the area of reciprocity. No evidence of ghosting has registered during the test and Flare, though possible, to move with every lens is well under control despite the lack of kept an included lens hood. The image circle projected this lens is capable of up to a full-frame sensor and the evidence points, edges, maintaining the image quality.

Conclusion
There is virtually no criticism of this lens that we can come! The structure is a little short of L quality, but is still well built. The optical performance is first class, with no nasty surprises or disappointing, and for handling, it is a pleasure to use. This leaves only the price, and although it is a little high, you do get in this case, what you pay for.
