Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 Review
If Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 looks much like the robust TS1, the company launched earlier this year, because the two cameras have a lot in common. Although the FP8 will not survive a dip in the drink or a drop in the ground like its brawnier brother, both use a unique fold-optical design that eliminates moving parts outside the camera. And cheaper at $ 300, this stripped down, classed-up model is 80 $. If the basic design to keep camera when the tank-like cover robbed? We found out.
Features and Design
Panasonic FP8 offers a 12.1-megapixel sensor, 4.6x zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen rated 230K pixels, Mega OIS optical image stabilization and a 28mm wide-angle lens.
Folding Optics
Unlike the majority of the pocket shooters you see today, missing the giant Panasonic FP8 center lens, from the front like a cannon when you turn it seems. Instead, it begins with a squared-off-looking Leica 28mm wide-angle lens in the upper right corner of the camera where you would find otherwise an optical viewfinder. Internal optics allow FP8 folds all the way up to 4.6x zoom without some extrusion of the camera. But unlike similar cameras such as Sony TX1, the FP8 has no sliding lens cover to protect the lens when not in use.

Start-up time
In TS1, that the design of the camera was extreme longevity. In the FP8, it’s all about speed. Panasonic makes the camera goes from off to ready-to-to shoot in 0.95 seconds, has since nothing mechanical to shoot from the body.
Dimensions, weight and size
The rest of the body takes the same deck of cards and or weight than most other point-and-shoots: 2.35 inches tall, 3.77 wide and 0.80 deep, with a reasonable weight of 0.29 pounds. It feels quite at home want in a pocket, although the lack of lens cover definitely make for a carrying case. Not surprisingly, the lack of armor makes the FP8 slimmer, smaller and lighter than the bulked-up TS1.
LED-lit buttons
The checks FP8 resemble what you might find in a product of this class, but a few things stood out. Panasonic opted for LED lighting rear controls, the very sharp eye and make the camera easier to work in the dark. However, only the tiny illuminated buttons get linear – the symbols for what they have printed on the body itself, and remains difficult to see in low light conditions. Until you have saved the controls that takes the light more style than usability.
Image Quality
The picture quality is about the same level of what you might expect from a camera in this price range. captured outside with good lighting, the FP8 crisp detail and brilliant colors, both in normal mode and with Panasonic’s Intelligent Auto set the tone. Panasonic Mega Optical Image Stabilization system seemed to do their work – far away road signs and license plates always seemed easy to read, even in shots, we hardly shot together or move.

Inside, Panasonic’s age-old problem with noise became more pronounced. checked In contrast to the recently ZS3 Panasonic, the Panasonic’s reputation somewhat loud dodged with clear photos up to ISO 800, the FP8 exhibits striking noise at ISO 400, which is downright outrageous at ISO 800. Although Intelligent car has a great job managing white balance and other settings to their tendency to shoot at ISO 400 and higher indoors caused visible noise in many shots.
Video Quality
Noise was also quite indoors videos, we actually cheaper to issue dedicated cameras like the Kodak Zi8 preferred pronounced. The FP8 had some positive though. Unlike many point-and-shoot cameras, video capture, but only allow digital zoom when the camera starts to roll, allowing full use of FP8 optical zoom and auto focuses on the fly, making it feel like a real camcorder.

Conclusion
As the camera FP8 delivers respectable, if not exactly best-in-class, image quality. But perhaps missing the point. Photographers will FP8 for the same reason Western gunslingers value used to the Colt Peacemaker value: It is pulling on the fast. The FP8 on our side, we felt ready to record everything in a moment. Think: The difference between a picture of milk shooting out your friend’s nose, or your friend the mouse over a pool of milk. And harm the slender body and LEDs not its image.
