Nikon has been regularly updating their zoom lenses and the latest to get the makeover treatment, the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 ED GII. The mark I version of the business press in 2003, so the update was long overdue.

This lens is a 2.9 x Professional quality with a fast f/2.8 constant aperture and Vibration Reduction Zoom. There is two version of Nikon AF-S 70-200 f/2.8, which has eagerly awaited for some time and is a complete redesign of the popular professional workhorse. The vibration reduction system has been revised and promises to give an extra stop of grace over the previous version. Nikon Nano Crystal Coat is also used in this lens, which together should improve contrast, and their resistance to veil and ghost images.

The shape of the new design is the older AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8, recalls with a wide body that has no taper on the lens mount until the tripod collar. The production quality is excellent through, with the bulk of the lens in the construction of magnesium. As a result, this lens is very heavy. Very hard, in fact, kg with a weight of more than 1.5, which is significantly more than its predecessor. The lens is weather sealed and designed to cope with the rigors of daily professional use in harsh conditions to be. Zoom and focus are carried out internally and as a result of the lens stays the same length at all times.

Focus is driven by a ring-type Silent Wave motor, so focusing is lightning fast and virtually silent. In use I found it to be frighteningly accurate, even under difficult conditions, and allowed me to other things, concentrate, such as composition and exposure. Minimum focus 1.4 meters throughout the zoom range, which is typical for this type of lens. The focus lock button found on earlier AF-S Nikkor this caliber have been omitted from this lens. Opinion will be divided, whether these are necessary, although I use it on my own 70-200mm and they missed on this lens.

Although this is a heavy lens, it is like on one of my D700 with the MB-D10 grip attached and would do to professional bodies such as the Nikon D3x or D3s. Without the handle, the lens combination feels quite heavy and would probably use a little uncomfortable over a long period of time. A rotating collar with a detachable base allows the lens to be mounted on a tripod or monopod. If everything clicked into place and tightened, it feels very solid and secure.

As one of the top lenses from Nikon, anything short would be great disappointment. Fortunately, this lens does not disappoint in terms of build, image quality or any other aspect of his performance.

This lens is designed specifically for the needs of even the most demanding photographers to be just, and unfortunately this type of quality has its price to 2000 to be exact. If you can not afford to compromise, then the price is somehow pales into insignificance. As a professional workhorse, this lens should be amortized.
