Nikon Coolpix L20 Review
Nikon Coolpix L20 is one of the best ways we’ve seen in a growing group of camera: very cheap, easy to use point-and-shoots with surprisingly stellar image quality and a little fashion sense. In fact, they charged the best image quality score from point-and-shoot camera we have up so far in 2009 – am very impressive for a bargain, AA battery powered camera saw.
Although the 10-megapixel Coolpix L20′s image stabilization system is a software-based, it was a huge task of collecting clear unblurred images – even when I shook it vigorously for about a photo or to the maximum capacity is increasing its 3.6X optical zoom ( 38mm to 136mm) lens. Pictures were surprisingly clear and sharp for a non-mechanical image stabilization system.
The deep red Coolpix L20, we tested had a painted plastic surface, the nail polish to his wife, an employee compared. The color looks sharp, and painted, the effect feels good in your hand. Although it looks slick (in the literal and aesthetic sense of the word), I could not use the camera with wet hands without having to run them more smoothly.

The back of the Coolpix L20 is a huge 3-inch-diagonal LCD screen that makes composing shots and reviewing them is dominated by a nicer experience than with most other bargain cameras. Several buttons–on off, shutter and playback as well as a button to switch between the movie and still modes and access to the 16 scene modes – the camera on the top.
Instead of a ring around the shutter button, the Coolpix L20 uses a wide narrow zoom bar that would be placed on the back of the camera, where the right thumb due to the rule. It is easy to use and comfortable to operate thanks to a grooved indentation for the thumb, but it’s something to think about if you prefer before you buy a ring-around-the-shutter approach to the zoom button.
A nice extra – and one that is quite rare on point-and shoots all costs – is a way to increase and decrease, while the Coolpix L20 in movie mode. The Coolpix L20 recorded at 640 x 480 AVI clips at 30 frames per second (with the option of knocking the resolution down to 320-by-240 at 30 or 15 fps).
The battery life is something of a weakness, but not terrible: The Coolpix L20 fired 230 shots before the AA batteries need to be replaced, substantially lower than the 300-plus shots offering many competing point-and-shoots.

The remaining buttons on the back are standard issue: a special menu button to delete a specific key and a round pad (the “Multi Selector”) to navigate the menu functions or turn off the timer, flash, and Macro mode, and adjust the exposure compensation. You do not get full manual controls – not surprising for a camera of this price – but no manual ISO controls. The ISO automatically increases in low-light settings, if you have turned off the flash, but you can not select specific ISO sensitivity levels in the camera. This is definitely a starter model with a focus on ease of use.
Easy to use certainly is, but there are a few nice features in the mix. Scans, together with 16 scene modes and an Easy Auto mode, automatic mode, which has the ideal environment for the shooting, the Coolpix L20 a “Blink Warning” function, the photos immediately after they are made, and warns you if someone blinked in the recording. This way, you can choose whether to keep the embarrassing photo of your girlfriend with closed eyes.
Also nice for a camera in this price is a panorama assist mode, which guides you through the process of recording panoramic images by using the hidden edge of the last photo, the shot you see as you shoot more pictures. The ArcSoft Panorama Maker 4 software with the Coolpix L20 as part of the photo camera supplied management suite does a great job of sewing things together from there, and you can even 360-degree panoramas easily.
The other software that is installed with the Coolpix L20 CD-ROM suite useful, but nothing special about the Nikon Transfer allows you and manage photos from your camera, edit and upload photos embedded photo info My Nikon Picturetown sharing .

All in all, the Coolpix L20 is a very affordable camera that performed very well in our image tests. Fo-sees value, usability and eye-catching, it is one of the best bargain point-and-shoots we seen so far in 2009. Do not expect the manual controls you had gotten a little more expensive cameras, but the Coolpix L20 to be a good option for beginners and casual look at night-on-the-photographers in the city.
