Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Lens Review

The new Nikon 18-200mm VR II is the same as the old 18-200mm VR, with the addition of a zoom lock at 18mm.

Just think about all the confusion, the original 18-200mm VR Nikon uses second-generation VR system, called VR-II. Therefore, you will see that the original 18-200mm VR with the VR II system is often sold as of 18-200mm VR II, which sounds identical to this new version.

The only way to tell which one you get to see whether it is a zoom lock button or the color of the VR on the top.

Gold and VR-Lock button = new version, red board and no lock-key = original version.

The new version says, “AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 GII ED” on them in gold, instead of “AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm 1:3.5-5.6 G ED.”

I walk by you again: the real new version II, “said II” in gold just below “DX” by the focus window, while the original version is identical, minus the “II”.

Find the zoom lock is a much easier way to identify the new version. You could also look at the VR logo, the gold on the II and red on the original version.

As far as I know, because using the original version of the VR II system, so the soil can also say some of the original versions, VR-II in silver. If they do not have a zoom lock that is not the newer version.

So what? Except for the zoom-lock, both lenses have the same optics, coatings and VR system.

I would not worry. Canon 18-200mm IS features a zoom lock, and I think turning on and off is more pain than dealing with zoom creep, so I do not use it anyway.

I still have a problem with zoom creep in my original 18-200mm, but others have. Heck, when I think, can my original 18-200mm VR 18mm keep turning up, even without a lock.

I think the best thing about this new lens that will help you score a deal on the original version without the zoom lock should.
