Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Lens Review
The Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM is an impressively powerful zoom lens. I consider it one of the best all-purpose lenses available and for the same reasons, it is one of the most professionally used Canon lenses. The 24-70 L is as good as it is in this focal length range.
The Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM is a very sharp lens – a few zoom lenses achieve this level of sharpness. The 24-70 L is sharp in the center to 2.8 at all focal lengths and very good results in the corners. Some corner softness at the wide end of the zoom range and softness seen in the 50-70mm apparent corners. As usual, stopping down (selection of a narrower aperture) to 5.6 makes a big difference in the longer focal length edges.
The 24mm wide open corners are most affected by vignetting. Vignetting is very well under control, but obviously in the corners at f 2.8 at 24mm on a full frame body. Vignetting improves the focal length increases, narrowing the opening. At comparable apertures, the 24-70 L shows less vignetting than the also-excellent Canon EF 24-105mm f 4 L IS USM – a typically expected result when comparing a high-aperture lens to a slower lens.
Like most 24-xx zoom lenses, the Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM shows some barrel distortion at the wide end. Specifically, a bulge in the middle of the frame. Barrel distortion disappears around 35mm. A very slight pincushion distortion at 50mm and will begin with a modest 70mm.

Color, contrast and saturation are excellent. CA (Chromatic Aberration) is well under control – especially for a zoom lens. The wide 8-blade aperture produces a beautiful quality of background blur, and a fair amount of it.
The image quality is not the only pro-grade functionality, the Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM. Excellent AF is a part of the equation. A ring-type USM (Ultrasonic Motor) AF system offers quiet, fast and precise autofocus. The 24-70 L’s f 2.8 aperture allows for enhanced AF susceptibility of many Canon EOS DSLR body points. As usual for a ring-type USM AF system is FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing on. The 24-70 L is not with the focus and the 77mm filter ring does not rotate to extend.
The Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM lens on the balance 33.6 oz (950g) – approximately 50% more than the closest competitor, Canon, the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f 2.8 USM and Canon EF 24 — 105mm f 4.0 L IS USM. Of course, the 17-55 does not win his advantage by providing a full frame 35mm image circle (as an “EF-S lens) and constructed with a lower quality. And the 24-105 only allows 1 2 as much light through their bodies wide open aperture (f 4 vs. 2.8).

Such as portraits are an integral part of wedding photography, makes the Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM a great portrait lens. On a full frame body, group, environmental and moderately tight portraits work best. Some of pincushion distortion at 70mm even you lean your subject a little. 
70mm too wide for a tight head shot – at least for my taste. Save the 70-200 is for a 1.6 L. In the body, more room for group photos at 24mm used, but more stringent 70mm portraits are all the more impressive because they are designed to be a long distance off.
Since the shooting a wedding is not too much (of photojournalism and many wedding photographers employ) a similar technique, the Canon EF 24-70mm f 2.8 L USM Lens is a great photo-journalism.
